First, you'll have to create a Dialer to connect to Highway.
1) Double click on the My Computer icon on your Desktop (main screen).
2) Double click on Dial-up Networking.
(If you do not have an icon for Dial-Up Networking, see the section on
"How to Install Dial-Up Networking".)
3) Double click on Make a New Connection.
4) [Type a name for the computer you are dialing] - type Highway Internet.
5) [Select a Device] - if your modem is already installed, it should appear
here. Click "Next" .
6) [Type the phone number for the computer you want to call] - 0198333499.
7) [Country code] - click on the drop-down arrow and scroll through to
find "Australia(61)". Click on this, then click "Next".
8) Click on "Finish".
You now have a
Highway Internet icon next to the Make New Connection icon.
1) RIGHT click once on the HWY icon then left click on "Properties"
2) At the top, click on "Server Types"
3) [Type of Dial-up Server] - choose the one that starts with "PPP:
"
4) In the Advanced Options boxes, untick "Log on to Network"
5) In Allowed Network Protocols, untick NetBEUI and IPX/SPX Compatible.
Only TCP/IP should be ticked.
6) Then click on the "TCP/IP Settings" button next to it.
7) Click in the circle to select "Server Assigned IP address".
Also select "Server Assigned Name Server Addresses"
8) "Use IP header compression" and "Use default gateway
on remote network" should both be ticked.
9) Click OK all the way back.
Now check that the phone number in your HWY dial-up connection is correct,
1) Double click on the Highway Internet icon.
2) Make sure the phone number does not have any extra numbers in front,
eg. 0011 0 2 0198333499
3) If it does, click on Dial Properties.
4) Make sure the Country/Region is Australia and that the Area Code is
02
5) The boxes "For local calls, dial" and "For long distance
calls, dial" should be blank and Tone Dial should be selected.
6) Click OK. Now the number should be just 0198333499
7) Click Cancel.
To
configure your Network protocols
1) Click on "Start" in the bottom left hand corner of the screen
and go to "Settings", then "Control Panel"
2) Scroll down till you find the Network icon and double click on it
3) In the "Configuration" section, highlight TCP/IP and click
on "Properties"
NB: if you have 2 or more identical TCP/IPs, click on the extra TCP/IP(s)
to highlight it, then click on Remove.
( If you do not have any TCP/IPs, see the section on "How
to Install TCP/IP".)
4) If a TCP/IP Properties Information box pops up, click OK and then click
on DNS Configuration at the top.
5) Make sure "Disable DNS" is selected and click on OK.
6) Click on OK again to save. Windows may prompt you to restart your computer.
Click Yes at this prompt.
You have now set up your computer to connect to your Highway account.
You will also need to configure your proxy settings and your email programme
if you haven't already done so.

1) From the Desktop (main screen), click on "Start", then "Run"
and type in inetwiz. Click OK.
2) Select the top option by clicking in the empty circle next to "Connect
using my phone line". Click Next.
3) Select "Create a new dial up connection". Click Next.
4) Enter the number of the Hwy server - 0198333499
5) Do not tick "Dial using the area code and country codes".
Click Next.
6) Enter your username (without the @hwy.com.au) and password in the appropriate
fields. Click Next.
7) Lastly, change the Connection name to "Highway Internet"
and click Next.
It will now ask
you if you wish to "Set Up Your Internet Mail Account".
1) Leave "Yes" selected if you wish to use Outlook Express (This
is the default email program you will have if you do not have a different
onealready installed. ) Click Next and proceed to Step 3.
2) Select "No" if you wish to use a different email programme
like Netscape Messenger, Eudora or Mozilla Thunderbird. Click Finish.
To configure your e-mail for Highway if you use these e-mail programmes,
please click here.
3) The wizard may now prompt you to Create a New Internet Mail Account
or use an Existing one. Select the option to Create a New account. Click
Next.
4) Enter your name as you would like it to appear to the person receiving
your email. You can use your name or your company's name in this field,
eg. John Smith or ABC Pty Ltd. Click Next.
5) Enter your email address as yourusername@hwy.com.au . Click
Next.
6) Leave "My incoming mail server is a "POP3" server.
For the Incoming Mail Server (POP3), type: pop3.hwy.com.au
For the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP), type: smtp.hwy.com.au
Click Next.
7) Your account name will already be entered so just enter your password,
making sure that "Log on using Secure Password Authentication"
is NOT ticked. Click Next.
8 ) Your email configuration on Outlook Express is complete. Click Finish.
You have now set
up your computer to connect to your Highway account.
You will also need to configure your proxy settings if you haven't already
done so.

and click Next.
7) Choose your modem, ensuring that the correct modem has been selected
and click Next.
8) Select "I want to connect through a phone line and a modem,"
click Next.
9) In the Telephone Number field, enter the number of the Hwy server -
0198333499
10) Do not tick "Dial using the area code and country codes".
Click Next.
11) Enter your username (without the @hwy.com.au) and password in the
appropriate fields. Click Next.
12) Lastly, change the Connection name to "Highway Internet"
and click Next.

Apple
Macintosh (OS 8.x / 9.x) [back

1) Click on the Apple
in the upper left corner of your Desktop, then on "Internet Access"
then on "Internet Setup Assistant".
2) The Welcome screen appears and the Setup Assistant will ask you the
following questions.
3) Would you like to set up to use the internet? Click Yes.
4) Do you already have an internet account? Click Yes.
Step 1:
After reading the Introduction, click on the right arrow at the bottom
to proceed to Step 2.
Step 2:
Type in Highway Internet for the name of the configuration and
select Modem for how you'll be connecting. Click on the right arrow.
Step 3:
By default, the Modem should read "iMac Internal 56K" and the
Port should be "Internal Modem". Phone line should use "Tone"
and don't tick the "Ignore Dial Tone" box. Click on the right
arrow.
Step 4:
i) In the Phone Number field, enter the number of the Highway server -
0198333499
ii) Enter your username and password respectively in the next 2 fields.
This should all be in lower case so make sure your Caps Lock key is not
on. Then click on the right arrow.
Step 5:
Select "No" to using a PPP Connect Script and click on the right
arrow.
Step 6:
Select "No" to the IP Address and click on the right arrow.
Step 7:
i) Don't specify any DNS addresses. Just click on the right arrow to continue.
Step 8:
i) Type in your e-mail address as yourusername@hwy.com.au
ii) Type in your password, making sure that your Caps Lock key is not
on as it must be in lower case.
iii) Leave the quoting character as > then click on the right arrow.
Step 9:
i) Enter your e-mail account (POP) as yourusername@pop3.hwy.com.au
ii) Enter the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) as smtp.hwy.com.au
Click on the right arrow.
Step 10:
Enter your newsgroup host (NNTP) as news.hwy.com.au and click on
the right arrow.
Step 11:
Select No to using a Proxy server for Internet Connections and proceed
to the Conclusion screen.
Step 13:
At the Conclusion screen, click on "Go Ahead".
The
Setup Assistant will now complete its configurations to connect to Highway.
Rather than "Connect when finished", it is advisable to first
restart your computer and then try to connect.
There are several
ways to connect:-
1) Click on the Apple (top left of Desktop) then select "Internet
Access" and "Connect to...".
Alternatively, clicking on "Mail" or "Browse the Internet"
will enable you to connect to Highway and work with email or surf the
Net right away.
2) Click on the Apple again. Select "Control Panel" then "Remote
Access" and then click the "Connect" button to connect
to Highway. This screen is also where your username, password and dial-in
number is stored and should be changed in here if ever needed.
3) And lastly, you can simply click on the icons directly on the Desktop
called "Browse the Internet" or "Mail".

Macintosh (OS 10/X) [back to

1) Click on the Apple Icon in the top left-hand side of your screen and
select System Preferences, then click on the Network icon.
2) TCP/IP tab
Location: select New Location, name it Highway Internet then click OK.
Show: Internal Modem
Domain Name Servers (optional) : leave blank
Search Domains (optional) : leave blank
3) PPP tab
Service Provider: hwy.com.au
Telephone Number: 0198333499
Account Name: (your username, eg. jsmith)
Password: (your password) Tick “Save Password”
4) Click on PPP Options then
tick the option to "Connect automatically ..." then click Save.
5) Your dial-up connection
has now been configured for your Highway account. Your OS X will dial
up and connect you automatically, however, should you wish to connect
manually, click on the Finder icon in the dock, then click on the Applications
icon and click on the Internet Connect icon to get online.
Optionally, you can click and drag this icon down to your dock as a shortcut
to connect up.
SETTING UP OS X EMAIL
1) On the bottom left
corner of the screen, click on the postage stamp to open the mail program.
2) Click on Mail then Preferences and then on the Accounts icon. Click
on Create Account.
3) ACCOUNT INFORMATION tab
Account Type: POP Account
Description: Highway Email
Email Address: username@hwy.com.au
Full Name: eg. John Smith, John, The Smiths etc.
Host Name: pop3.hwy.com.au
Username: (your username, eg. jsmith)
Password: (your password)
SMTP Host: smtp.hwy.com.au (NB:
Do not check use authentication when sending e-mail)
4) ACCOUNT OPTIONS tab
i ) Make sure all 3 check boxes are ticked
ii ) Download messages from this account into folder: INBOX
5) Click OK to save.
How
to Install Dial-up Networking
1) Double click on
the "My Computer" icon on your Desktop (main screen).
2) Then double click on "Control Panel".
3) Double click on "Add/Remove Programs".
4) At the top, click on "Windows Setup" tab.
5) A Windows Setup box appears and says "Please wait while Setup
searches for installed components."
6) Make sure that there is a tick in the box next to "Communications"
(icon of a telephone).
7) Double click on "Communications" and make sure that "Dial
up Networking" is ticked.
8) Click OK and OK again then close the Control Panel screen which takes
you back to your Desktop.
9) Windows may ask you to insert your Windows CD so it can copy certain
files. Once this is done, you can return to creating your dialer in Dial-Up
Networking to connect to Highway. To continue, click

How
to Install TCP/IP
1) Double click on
the "My Computer" icon on your Desktop (main screen).
2) Then double click on "Control Panel".
3) Scroll down to find the "Network" icon (2 computer screens
and a printer) and double click on it.
4) Below the "Configuration" box, click on "Add".
5) In "Select Network Component Type", click once on "Protocol"
to highlight it, then click "Add".
6) Click once to highlight "Microsoft" then on the right-hand
side, scroll down till you get "TCP/IP".
7) Click OK and OK again then close the Control Panel screen which takes
you back to your Desktop.
8) Windows may ask you to restart your computer so say Yes. Once this
is done, you can return to configuring your Network protocols for Highway.
